Zach,

Wow!

I've been recording the BOM for the Cartesian side of Darwin in an excel
spreadsheet. I'll put it up on the wiki so you can get a flavour of the
fields invovled
(http://www.reprap.org/bin/view/Main/BOMForTheCartesianRobot). Hope this
helps...

I'm very much liking point 4 in your BOM directions!

eD

after entering *hopefully* all of the BOM that eD wrote up, i figured i should do something useful with it. now that i have a list of all the parts, i can go through and generate a list of unique parts and also the total quantities of each part. check it out:

[parts.reprap.org]

breakdown:
current total parts cost of project (no shipping): $405.38
current number of unique parts (rp included): 92

looking forward, it should be a simple matter of looking up suppliers for each unique part and breaking it down into what you need to buy, grouped by who you get it from. as an added benefit, it can order the suppliers based on who supplies you the *least* number of unique parts. if you can find an equivalent part from one of your other suppliers, you could lower sources and ideally costs/chaos.

also, it will initially suggest suppliers based on your country. you will also be able to enable/disable entire suppliers (with live updated stats on cost + estimated shipping!!!)

I've been so bowled over by Zach's database that I have forgotten to
say how fabulously useful it all is. Your very good health, Zach!
This is indispensable.

Best wishes

Adrian
