Steel Rods in Ireland?

Hi Guys,

I'm building a Prusa Mendel and have most of the parts ordered, just the electronics, filament and some fasteners left, but I have a problem.
I was planning to order my 8mm smooth steel rod from farnell, along with the rest of my fasteners and vitamins, because they have free shipping, but it turns out the longest rods they have are 333mm, while the Prusa needs 420mm for its longest.

Anyone know where to get them either locally or somewhere that shipping is cheap?

Also what kinds of metal are recommended? Stainless Steel, Silver Steel, etc?

Thanks.

I bought stainless steel rods from ebay, and they've been great. Ebay was much cheaper than anywhere else I could find.

Are they still being sold on ebay? I can't seem to find any that are cheaper than a set for €40 on emaker. This is including delivery, so it's not a bad price I suppose.

For anyone else looking I ended up getting them here
They seem to be pretty good so far, all's going smooth.

Bit late, I know but RS - radionics in rialto do 1 m lengths of 8mm silver steel, pack of 3. Bought some myself recently. Silver steel is to a higher tolerance than stainless or mild. Some wd 40 should keep it bright.
