slic3r can't slice many stl objects from Thingiverse

slic3r can't slice many stl objects from Thingiverse

I can only slice very few of the .stl objects from Thingiverse.com. The program just dies.
Is that the way it is, or can I improve?

... run the STL's through Netfabb basic or another program, that can 'repair' not watertight object, so they will become manifold/watertight ...

If that fails try the online version, sometimes it works better for me : [cloud.netfabb.com]

Most of my technical comments should be correct, but is THIS one ?
Anyway, as a rule of thumb, always double check what people write.
