Huxley dual extruder upgrade ?

Huxley dual extruder upgrade ?
May 27, 2014 05:39AM
Hi,

Could we imagine to replace the extruder by a duel extruder on reprappro Huxley ?
Did someone try something similar ?

I would like to use PVA soluble material to build supports.

Do you think that's possible with:

- Huxley dual nozzle holder or RepRapPro Dual Hotend
- Sanguinololu Upgrade Module, is it compatible with marlin ?
- Slic3r to generate the g-code

my confg is:
RepRapPro Huxley
Snguinololu 1.3a
Marin 1.01

Hum, I don't think the SLUM project was completed,

Maybe I can use my old Sanguinololu PCB to act as a stepper expansion board like here: http://richrap.com/?p=121
Did someone tried to use 2 nozzles in one hotend to manage just on temperature hotend with two material ?

I think the Huxley hot-end will easily support a second nozzle, without extending the carriage, which would seriously limit the X movement.
Might require also a bigger heatsink or using a late to adjust the thickness of the nozzle between the hot and cold end.
In case of the Melzi board, the unused heated bed driver could be used to control the second resistor/cartridge.
The AUX header has enough pins to drive an additional stepstick.

I didn't experiment it yet, but I think it could be an interesting opportunity smiling smiley

I have a reprap(pro) huxley with melzi and I would really like to be able to use dual extruders, to use PVA supports, t'he heated bed unused connector seems like a great idea!
For the heatsink, a cut old CPU heatsink might be enough, I think the marlin software does support dual extruders.
If It can't, we could use a slave melzi or an arduino to control de 2nd extruder.
