Weird Z axis opto behavior
April 22, 2011 09:33AM
Hi gang,

I have an issue with the z axis opto-end. When the opto has detected that the Z axis is all the way down, it will not go back up but rather it will go down more. When I move the opto (which is mounted near the z axis motor) out of the way of the metal plate (which is mounted on the x axis) then the Z axis moves up.

This is a weird behavior because it should be reversed. Obviously optos cannot be reversed or else they will blow... so what am I doing wrong. Its not the opto.

Maybe the crimping job?

Thanks reprapers

Are you sure it's in the min-z and not the max-z port?

I dont know what minz and maxz ports are.

I figured it out though. On the following page: [www.reprap.org]

They mention that the wires could sometimes cause opposite behavior. If this occurs, just mirror the wires to rewire it, and so now it works fine.

Thanks all.

The old Gen 3 electronics had a MIN and a MAX limit switch input on the stepper driver boards.
If you had hooked up to the MAX instead of the MIN then you might have the behavior that you reported.
