its not a kickstarter type project they say, they don't like that it may reproduce its self.

I'm shocked... Kickstarter has reprap projects all the time... I was watching the site to see when i could start the wave of donations for you....

Hey there,
I am also quite shocked that the campaign was´nt accepted.
But hey! Fuck Kickstarer and run with IndieGogo instead. I definitely believe you will make success :-)
Best wishes,
Danzig

Try with Kickstarter again. Maybe Kickstarter change there mind because they funded [www.kickstarter.com] . Also try IndieGoGo.

How is the funding going? I have donated to your paypal account, but I felt uneasy doing so. You don't have a great web presence, and there really isn't a vast amount of information about your project online. For example, I have no idea what your real name is or where your project is based. As a consequence, I don't know if this project is legitimate, or if I've just wasted my money. Still, it's such a great idea, it's worth the risk.

Since other people may be more risk averse than me, can I suggest that you get am indiegogo page, and a public-friendly website, with pictures, and simple project plans and details - such as where the project will take place, who will be working on it, what time scale do you envision, plus you could turn the cost spreadsheet into a great infographic with a pie chart and a diagram of the intended design. It wouldn't be too difficult to achieve, a computer science student intern could probably put something together very cheaply for you over a summer vacation time. You could then promote the page on science friendly content aggregation websites like reddit and slashdot.

Just my thoughts as a donator

Hi Tom,

thank you for your donation. Funding is going quite slow, but we are getting there.

I agree with you, that MetalicaRap is a great project. It is however a rather heavy engineering job to iron out all the details of the technology. Only very few people - that like open source - are however able to take in the level of detail needed to actually "engineer out" a project like MetalicaRap.

Whenever we we find people that have experience in the fields involved with MetalicaRap, we are repeatedly reminded how little engineers like to give away (open source) their knowledge and know-how. :-) And the core technologies are only used a few places in the world, so some of the parts only have very few current sources, even world wide.

But even so, we believe in the project, and slowly but surely, keep digging into the details of the project.

Rapatan and myself (MrAlvin) are based in Copenhagen, and we both enjoy hanging out at labitat.dk which is the local makerspace.

The first MetalicaRap machine is likely to appear at Labitat, or at one of the creative metal working sites in Copenhagen, where there might be better room for such a machine. Currently we often talk with people involved in illutron.dk and copenhagensuborbitals.com

The main (actually the only) web presence for MetalicaRap is at reprap.org - we have chosen this to ensure GPL open source licenses on all published materials.

Anyone with specialist expertise in: Stainless metal prototype machining, High voltage power supply prototyping (100kV), Vacuum instrumentation, Mechanical drafting / design - are invited to contact us.

People with an interest in looking at the back end software (specifically the unified accelerator library) are also very welcome to contact us.

on behalf of the MetalicaRap team,
MrAlvin

Is there any way that I can help in addition to funding? I'm only a first year mechanical engineering student, but I would be glad to contribute in any way towards this project.

Thanks,

AJ
