RAMPS 1.4 USB connection
April 25, 2013 04:17AM
I am beginning to connect my hardware to a RMAPS 1.4 board. However (and I may just have missed it!) but can anyone point me to information on which socket is for the USB connection and the wiring?

I cant seem to find it anywhere.

Thanks

Jonathan

Its the big USB-B connector on the Arduino Mega.

The board I have is like this:

[reprap.org]

I bought this ready to go (except for connecting steppers etc) but there is no USB socket on the board and so am assuming that one of the sets of pin connectors is for this, but I cant find any reference to this on the web page above.

Thanks

Do you have an arduino mega? Ramps boards are extensions to an arduino mega. They are useless without it.

Yes - the RAMPS board is simply an Arduino shield (RAMPS = Reprap Arduino Mega Pololu Shield). It has no processor - just electronics for running the motors, heaters, thermistors, end stops, etc. In order to have somewhere to load the firmware, you need an Arduino Mega which, as has been stated, has the USB connection you are looking for.

Hi. Thanks for the input. Finally figured this out.

I think one of the things that newbies suffer with it the terminology! A dictionary on the site would be good!

Thanks again,

Jonathan
