New Smart LCD Controller displaying blank squares
July 23, 2013 05:08PM
Greetings. I just received and installed a new Smart LCD Controller, re-compiled and flashed, and all I'm seeing is a blank display (with solid squares if I turn up the contrast.) I've attached and posted a picture of it here: [start3dprinting.com]

The display is connected to a RAMPS 1.4 board, running Marlin_v1 (pulled yesterday), patched per the instructions at [reprap.org]

The handshake log looks like this:

Quote

10:35:35 PM: Attempting to connect to printer
10:35:36 PM: Connection opened
< 10:35:45 PM: start
< 10:35:45 PM: echo: External Reset
< 10:35:45 PM: Marlin 1.0.0
< 10:35:45 PM: echo: Last Updated: Jul 22 2013 19:43:52 | Author: (none, default config)
< 10:35:45 PM: Compiled: Jul 22 2013
< 10:35:45 PM: echo: Free Memory: 4005 PlannerBufferBytes: 1232
< 10:35:45 PM: echo:Hardcoded Default Settings Loaded
< 10:35:46 PM: FIRMWARE_NAME:Marlin V1; Sprinter/grbl mashup for gen6 FIRMWARE_URL:[www.mendel-parts.com] PROTOCOL_VERSION:1.0 MACHINE_TYPE:Mendel EXTRUDER_COUNT:1

I *can* interact with the SD card, and the printer works fine from Repetier-Host, but I'm getting nothing from the LCD.

Any ideas??

Problem solved (thanks to some discussion I found on a Rostock board.) In case someone else ends up here with the same issue, the "row of squares" is drawn by the LCD's firmware -- it's part of the boot-up process, and it's what is shown until the RAMPS firmware takes over. Hence my problem, the RAMPS boards wasn't seeing the LCD panel. The cause was a bad connection. I inspected and re-soldered some of the pins on the RAMPS board, reassembled, and it works now.

Hey there

I recently bought a LCD interface but it's been acting up, displaying the blank squares as you posted. I was wondering which pins did you re-solder on the ramps board cheers
