RAMPS Motor Testing Problem
December 29, 2014 08:30PM
Hello,
I am about to begin scratch building another 3D printer. All the materials have been delivered, and I have been working on testing the RAMPS electronics. I have successfully compiled and uploaded the motor test code, and the lights are flashing but there is no movement, sound, vibrations etc. coming from the motors. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

This could be a bunch of things... Are the power supply on? Are the pots on the steppers turned up? Are end stops inverted and therefore triggered?

Do you have drivers installed?
All the jumpers should be in place under drivers
the pots on drivers come preset

Following image shows 4 driver installed correctlyon RAMPS
[www.keegan.org]

If you put them in the wrong way -- they probably are fried!

DO NOT diddle, wire or un-wire with power ON
turn OFF motor power supply and disconnect usb before wiring changes

Is it wired correctly
[reprap.org]

Blinking LEDs show heater circuits D8, 9, 10 working

Check colors on motors to make stepper phases correct 1A 1B 2A 2B

Endstops are not connected - is that necessary (newb alert)? I checked and everything else seems fine, thanks for the responses.

Test code doesn't look at endstops!

[reprap.org]

Should move X Y back and forth and turn heaters ON/OFF

Other code might
May have to set code for NO normally open stops

I solved my problem! I was plugging in power to the Arduino, not the RAMPS. Motors all work great, I'm excited to continue with the build!
