RAMPS 1.4 Jumpers Under Drivers
June 13, 2015 01:54PM
Alright, I am setting up my Mendel90. I have attached a picture with red highlighted squares. Do these pins need to be jumped for every driver? What do they do? My RAMPS 1.4 board came with none from SaintSmart. My stepper motors vibrate and make noise when trying to move them. Mos of the time they wont move.

Yes, they set the microstepping level for the associated driver . . . you need three jumpers per set, going onto 2 pin sets, which typically sets microstepping to 16 . . . which is what most firmware is configured for. Bare, the motors will move in full steps, and your calibratioin and resolutioin will be awful.

Thank you Tim. I have placed an order for some jumpers. I hate that SaintSmart sales this without the jumpers.

Some boards lately have traces there that you would have to cut to enable the jumpers. Stupid, yes, but if you have those, you don't need to add jumpers because the connection is already madr. You might verify that that is not what you have first . . . Are you having a motion problem that makes you think that your microstepping is set incorrectly?
