Heatbed Stuck on After PID Autotune
July 30, 2015 08:58AM
Hi all,

I've built a printer and used a Ramps 1.4 Adruino MEGA 2560. All was going well, i installed a heated bed, it took a couple of minutes to get up to temp, so i did PID autotune, since running the autotune the bed is stuck constantly on, the ramps smells burnt when on, and the LED for the bed is constantly on.

Is the board fried?

Thanks

Some cheap Ramps clones use bad screw terminals for the PSU and the extruder/bed cables.
If you happen to have a weak 5V regulator on the arduino, you can also get very hot MOSFet´s. Measure the 5V rail on your endstop-connectors. Is it lower than 4.8V?
I´ve seen, that a hot MOSFet touching the screw terminal, made it smell and smoke!

Make sure, your connectors don´t melt! They can cause shortcuts.

I think i broke the ramps, as my printer was set to use bang-bang, but i tried to PID autotune on bang bang. So i think this is why the MOSFET is stuck on.

There really isn't anything involved other than the MOSFET. Replace it and keep moving forward . . . no need to trash the board for a component failure . . .
