Using an electromagnet with RAMPS

What is the best way to connect a 12V electromagnet to RAMPS?

Ideally without using D8, D9 and D10. Is it a good idea to use the 12V AUX pins (here marked as extruder fan)?

The 12V AUX pin is a constant 12V outlet, i.e. it's always "on" and there is no way to switch it from the MEGA.

With the Fan Extender it would be possible, right?

Is there another option?

With an electromagnet ( ie: solenoid ) you get problems with backEMV when you switch off the coil. Be sure you have the right suppressor diode installed.

like this

You cant use fan extenders, they are low current devices

You can use D8, D9 and D10, just remove the mosfet and use its as a IO pin to drive the optocoupler

And as already stated you need to deal with the backEMV, or what ever devices you use will die.

For the fan extender I linked above, it says max 0.5A per channel. The electromagnet I want to use needs only 0.33A, so as long as I add a flyback diode it should work, right?

The fan extender already has a flyback diode.
I wouldn't put my money on the durability of this setup, but it's worth a try.
