extended stepper wire cable wont drive stepper motor

Hi, finally i have some bits of machine working...yay !

but have had issues with x stepper, and had not yet tested extruder,

this morning i cross tested everything and realised that i CAN get X and E motor to work when NOT using extended cables
(to reach E motor i need double the length of supplied cable, for x i need about 1.1/2 times)
to join cables i stipped them back twisted together / solder and heat shrink

board- mega, ramps , DRV8825 stepper motor driver tuned to 0.6 volts

question is - perhaps i could reduce the length of X cable , redo joins, try to reduce the resistance (perhaps the lump of solder on join adds to this ?)
or get longer wires made up,
or try increasing voltage ( i think i tried to up it to 1+ volt and that didn't seem to make any difference, but i could try again)

ill try to test resistance, and measure length of cables

cheers
BW

Use multimeter to test for Continuity. Cable length means nothing at these lengths.
Most likely you have a broken wire or faulty soldering.

thanks dintid,
i found out that plugs were wired differently on 2nd length of cable,
so i cut them and rewired and now all good !!!!!
now i just need to work out how to home the bed- and all other stuff

cheers
