Hi everyone, I'm building my first 3D DLP printer (3D SLA printer). I have my ardunino mega board, ramps 1.4 with DRV8825 driver modules.

The specifications of the ramps 1.4 board say 12 volts at 11amps or 12 volts at 5amps, however I want to use a nema 34 the required voltage is 24-60V 5.5amps current/phase. Can anyone help me with connecting this up, any diagrams or tutorials would be great but any help would be greatly appreciated.

24-60V 5.5amps is very problematic

Pololu modules including drv8825 have a 2amp max limit, yes they could be run at 24v... but not 5 amp.. (maybe if you ran them in liquid nitrogen!)

You need to look at something like these Motor Drivers Controller but even that's only 4amp

Then you just wire the external stepper driver to enable, step and direction and gnd pins of the pololu module socket

Thanks for the reply, any chance you can explain in a bit more detail?

i.e.if I ground the pololu module (how do I do that?) do I simply connect the stepper output of the ramps board to the stepper input of the suggested motor driver controller?

As you can probably guess, I have no idea how to do what you recommended, any diagrams would be great or an idiots guide.

instead of using pololu type modules, you just use the step, direction, enable pins to your external stepper driver

Thanks Dust, thats great, just what I needed smiling smiley I take it I don't use the jumpers to set the micro stepping on the ramps 1.4 board?

Correct, when using this type of setup the micro-stepping jumpers are not used, micro-stepping is setup on the external controller.

Oh look someone just posted about this stepper controller... in another forum.

It does 20-50VDC 5.6A , and not to high a price... Should be a good fit for your stepper motor

I have connected the Ramps to the extenal driver TB6560 as the diagram below but they all still not work. Do we need chang anything in Marlin? Thank you

I am making this connection: (1X) RAMPS + (3X) TB6560 + (3X) NEMA 23. I checked above where it says that the connection of the image is wrong:

But I did not understand the comment that says it is wrong, because at first the RAMPS has the 5v pin. According to the following link.

And now, what is correct? It seems to me that there was a change of position between the + and - pins.

Cited above, the positive pins (EN + / CW + / CLK +) would be connected to the 5v of the RAMPS board, while the other negative pins (EN- / CW- / CLK-) are connected to the respective pins of each RAMPS driver.

On the link link is the opposite, the negative pins (EN- / CW- / CLK-) are connected to the GND of the respective RAMPS driver, while the positive pins (EN + / CW + / CLK +) are connected to the other pins of the respective ramps driver.

If the connection of the link I sent is correct, I had the following question: how do you get the other TB6560 drivers in the RAMPS? Should the negative pins of each TB6560 driver (EN- / CW- / CLK-) be connected to each GND of the respective RAMPS driver or should all GND drivers be connected to a single GND of the RAMPS? According to the example of the following link:

It seems to me that in this example all the negative pins of all the drivers (EN- / CW- / CLK-) were connected in a single GND pin of one of the drivers in the RAMPS.

Can someone help me with this link?

The 5v pin on the ramps has 0 volts on it. It only connects the 5v pin to the 5v lines of the servo plugs,

It is designed to be jumpered to the Vcc pin above it to put 5v on the servo lines.

The GND's its doesnt matter, they are all connected on the ramps anyways, So all together or use the individuals per stepper its up to you wich you like better.


Because the TB6560 has -ve and +ve connectors it can be connected either way.

step pin do you want it to step on a low or high signal? Answer: It doesn't matter.
direction pin, high or low? Answer: It doesn't matter as stepper can have direction reversed in firmware or with a simple rewiring of stepper cables.
select high or low? Answer: It doesn't matter as can be inverted in firmware. default is active low.

So pick one and make the firmware match.
