After I turn off the power supply and the USB stays connected, the Arduino with the screen does not disconnect.

Is there a way to disconnect USB at the same time as the power?

You would need to modify the mega or the usb cable to remove the +5v line.. (leave the gnd connected)

Thank you. Sounds pretty logical, didn't think of that. :-)

I think that I will go for an intermediate piece between the Arduino board and the usb cable, where the 5V wire is cut.
