Heated bed stopped working

Hi all,

The heated bed on my 3D printer (Prusa i3) as stopped working over the weekend. I have done some checking with both the heated bed on the printer and a spare, brand new, heated bed and get the same issue. The resistance of each heated bed of them was around an ohm.

When the heated bed is disconnected and I select preheat, LED (LED2) was lit. When I reconnect the heated bed and select preheat then the LED is off. With the wires disconnected and preheat is selected there is a voltage of about 12V on D8 but as soon as connect the heated bed this drops to 0V..

I have tried the spare heated bed on my bench PSU and it heated up. From the symptoms I am assuming the MOSFET driving the bed has probably blown, is this assumption reasonable? I have a spare RAMPS board which I will use to replace the broken one at the weekend,

Yes this is likely

The standard mosfet on the ramps for the bed is woefully inappropriate for the job

See [reprap.org] for lots of details

But basically I would get a much better mosfet, I use the IRLB 8743
