Hi
Im having trouble getting one motor to spin using arduino and sprinter and pronterface i have the small extruder motor connected and its working ive tried different wiring setups and change the steps in sprinter ****any help would be apprieciated ******here are some pics******* the black motor wire is attched to a yellow motor wire

What about signal levels? Some external drivers work with enable=high, some with enable=low.
This can usually be changed in firmware. ( IDK sprinter ? )
Does the stepper shaft turn freely when enabled, or does it block?

Hi thanks for reply
I change the signal level to high, but still when I pressed connect on pronterface the motor goes clunk and doesnt rotate, then when I press Y axis it goes clunk but doesnt rotate. When power is not on,, shaft can be turn by hand when powered up.. i cant turn motor.
any help appreciated thanks for your help..

It seems the stepper coils are energized and enable works.
Now you can try to switch around the wires of ONE coil. Maybe the stepper tries to run CW/CCW between each other step.
With a NEMA17 you can hear them hum then, not sure what a NEMA34 would do. So be prepared winking smiley

I changed the Aplus motor wires around nothing changed ,,,so I put them back and change the B minus wires around nothing changed..
Any help would be appreciated

Is it red wire on ramps connected to the 5v?
If so, then stepper driver should be wired as common (5v) anode.
The step/direction/enable pins on the Ramps are taken to the GND inputs on the external driver.

Yes I have the red wire connected to the 5v ramps... I changed over the step/direct/enable wires from ramps to ena-/dir-/step-
heres some pics not sure if thats what you meant.I tried with this setup still no go motor got very hot..

Set the current to ≈75% of your motor's rated current.
Reducing the microstepping e.g. 16x for a testing purpose.

On the Ramps the 5v pin you are using does not have 5v on it

That connector the top pin vcc has 5v.

That connector is normally used to make the 5v pins on the servo connectors live by putting a jumper from vcc to the 5v pin

Thanks so much for your help
I tried your common anode setup.. still running sprinter firmware,,, nothing happened... then i tried reptier firmware and the motor turns CW when i hit pronterface CW and CCW when I hit CCw button...happy days thank you The homing button makes the motor turn too ....My next issue is to speed up rotation ive tried to change config firmware with no results ...Ive also tried to hookup end stops and config with no results....
any help would be appreciated

use command line gcode g1 with parameter f feedrate

f is in mm/min

eg g1 x50 f6000

move x by 50 (or to 50 is absolute mode) at 100mm/s (* by 60 for mm/min)
This of course depends on your steps/mm values being correct
Also be ware of max feed rate value in firmware. These will clip at that value.

Thanks for your reply
Yes can speed up axis with gcode..
My next question is.... Ive plug in one of my end stops x... when I press the homing button it wont stop when I press the x end stop?.. just testing electrics..
..Im also getting this error ...... is this because I dont have any hot end or heat bed connected.

Printer is now online.

"heated bed: temp sensor defect"

Its not reading room temp on the bed and panicking

check endstops are working with M119 command, ie send M119, then hold endstop and send M119 again, does the endstop you expect to be triggered now say triggered?
