November 23 2011 Meeting
Posted by: Sublime ()
Date: October 28, 2011 05:09PM

Consensus says we need more than one meeting a month. It also says one of those meetings need to be near a skytrain station.

Current suggestions have been:

BP at Surrey central
Central city brew pub
White spot at surrey central

Even better would be a location where we can set up a machine or two.

Please speak up so we can find a location that works for everyone.

Brad

Im fine with anywhere really. Would be great to have 1 meet and chat and 1 meet and play with machine.

Surrey is out of my reach in terms of finding a location for places we can setup machines, short of finding peoples houses of course.

A possibility is renting a space at a community center or alike that would allow us to bring our repraps and print with. Though I have no idea how much that would cost nor do I know of any location close to the skytrain station.

If being near a skytrain doesnt matter, I might be able to get permission to a location in Langley near glover and logan that could potentially allow us to bring our machines. It is also right next to the langley bus station which would allow for transiters to still get there, but Im not 100% sure I'll be able to get it so dont hold me words against me yet. I'll ask and keep you guys posted.

Hi group,

I am interested in attending as well. I work in Surrey but any location to meet is fine.

If we do this at Surrey Place my vote is for Central City Brew Pub. One of my favorite places to eat.

Plus a pretty good selection of brews on Tap.

Do we want this next meeting to be a longer (3-5 hours) 'play with a machine' meeting rather than just a chat like last night (which was great by the way!).

If so, we should look into booking one of those library rooms as Brad mentioned or elsewhere. I don't care where in the GVRD we have it since this will be worth driving for.

I'll put this out there again...I'm happy to offer my place in Port Coquitlam for the longer meetup.

I imagine my Prusa might get finished with all the help in the room smiling smiley

Hey John,

The only problem with your place is the skytrain not being close for the vancouver people. Maybe the non near skytrain meeting could be at your place.

As for the library rooms and such we will all have to look into those.

For what it's worth...I'm about a 15 minute drive from the Braid Skytrain station.

I would be either willing to meet for a hands on night or chit chat. But to be honest hands on would be more fun.

a hands on meet would definitely benefit people who dont have machines and its just fun to stare at the machine printing. If the number of people coming to these meets are the same every time it would be worth while looking into renting a location for the night at a community centers or alike places. I'll still ask about SFU surrey and see if I can get a few profs to do something, but chances with SFU is that it'll be a 1 time thing and wouldnt be a set location to have a "bring your machine" meet.

Brad you had mentioned a games place on 96th and roughly 199, is that place worth checking out for us as a location for bringing our machines as an alternative to John's house?

EDIT:

just checked a few places that we can book/rent spaces though no prices or terms are listed on the websites. Maybe someone can give them a call and see what the deal is.

Langley Event Centre (604.455.8821): Room rental: multi-media room (capacity: 15)
North Surrey Recreation Centre (604.502.6311): North Surrey Recreation Centre - Meeting Room #2 (up to 30)

I would suggest going in to see them and taking a print sample, maybe some pictures. Its family run and they are nice people, I just think they would have no clue what your are talking about without showing them.

I just got off the phone with the Central City Library.

They have a room for up to 16 people available for November 23. It costs $20 an hour for non-profit use and we could have it from 6-9pm if everyone is interested. Its room 306 if anyone would like to look into more. Their phone number is 604-598-7300

OK we have one week to figure out where we want the meeting to take place. If we do not decide on a location it will be at BP in surrey due to its simplicity.

For some reason I think there is somewhere I have to be on the 23rd so I might not be able to come to this next meet. If I can make it, Im fine with either but I think we should only book the location if enough people are going to show up with enough machines other wise its not really worth it.

I would place a vote for the library location. I would love to see some actual machines.

Well it is currently just Rantenki and myself confirmed. We don't need to drive all the way to surrey if no one else is coming. So if you would like this meeting to happen in surrey you will need to speak up. The library needs to be booked in advance and will only be booked if enough people agree to come.

Just throwing this out there: do we want to have the meeting on Nov 26 during the day rather than a Wed night to give us more time to 'play' assuming we go to the Library?

The weekend would be good but I don't think we have enough time to change it at this point.

We only have 4 confirmed people and one maybe at this point so I will not be reserving the meeting room yet. Expect it to be at a Restaurant unless we get enough people to make the price of the room worth it.

That depends? We've had very little participation in choosing a location. Do you have a preference?

No preference, just something close to a skytrain.

Damn, my follow topic didn't take, or I would have been voting for the library too :| I cannot afford to go near the CC beer store, as I always rack up the visa when I go in there!

We all still on for tonight at Central City? I may hike down to the library first to take some photos of the meeting rooms if so.

Cheers;
