Opinion on extruder gripping
March 30, 2013 01:49PM
My j-head has been jamming waaaay too often, and someone suggested on another forum that I may not be getting enough grip on my hobbed bolt on my wade's extruder.

Can anyone take a look at these pics and give me an opinion on if this may be a part of my problem?

This is a piece of ABS that I manually fed through and back out of my extruder by turning the gears manually to get a feel for what type of grip I am getting.

Since the size limits are very small, here are some pics from my drop box:

Try to pull out the filament with bar hands (while holding the gear to the hobbed bolt), if it is too easy than you might found the problem but, if you can't pull out the filament without breaking the printer: try on other filament

It's definitely not easy to pull out, but I have seen some pics of extruder teeth marks that are way more aggressive.

I suppose it could be the ABS or even my hot end at this point.

Very frustrating how frequently I am getting a clogged nozzle.
