No filament at printing

No filament at printing
March 05, 2014 12:25PM
Started in test cube moved due to hijacking (sorry)

I did a filament calibration without the hot end in place
100mm is fed into the extruder so that part I feel is right

However started to do my very first print (the test cube) and the first 4 - 5 layers were a complete mess

Plus I am under the impression, the head moves to home and the filament is supposed to come out and leave a thin line from home to the object
I get nothing, layers 1 and 2 printed nothing 3 - 5 were globs and a huge mess

It has "ring" around the object in the gcode The printer moves to print , but nothing appears

Is this right is something wrong ??
What settings do I check

Here are the first few lines of the geode file

It sounds like you are loosing a lot of plastic from the hot end as it warms up, and the skirt around your object isn't enough to prime your hot end fully.

Try increasing the Minimum extrusion length to something like 10 (or more if necessary) and see if that helps.

To Cameron
Thanks
That did the job and I'm printing my first so far successful test cube
and we have got to the 10mm point on a 20mm cube

Thanks for all your help

No problem. Post back here if you have other problems that you can't solve by searching. A good way to search the forums here is to use Google, and include "site:forums.reprap.org" (without the quotes) as part of your search term.
