Help - Settings for bridging with ABS
March 08, 2016 04:37PM
Can someone point me to good information on tuning my slicer/firmware settings for being able to do decent bridges with ABS?

I can do some decent ones with PLA but have not been able to figure out the very different tricks needed for ABS.

I use this thing http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:12925

Usually comes down to temperature and/or speed

Also if you have a fan that blows on the object, you probably have it off when printing ABS.
It may be beneficial to have your Slicer turn it on just for the bridge

What it works for me ( I can do the bridge test complete, bridges of more than 10 cms long). I use slic3r:
bridge speed 17 mm/s
brideg flow rate 87%
And I configure the auto cool option to have the fan alwoays off EXCEPT when bridging, in that moment I use the cooling at 100%
Hope it helps you

We find that a low temperature (e.g 220deg for ABS) and a fast speed and high flow rate work best for bridging.

Thanks Tinchus and 3Dex Ltd , that's the sort of info I was looking for.

Are there particular brands of ABS that seem to work better than others? I've been using the Inland ABS from MicroCenter but I've seen some good stuff about Hatchbox.
