So I've been doing a few prints with decent success, but I keep getting these little blobs, especially in the first few layers, that cause problems in subsequent layers. I'm using a .35mm j-head hot end, RAMPS 1.4, marlin firmware, and ABS

Just throwing an idea out, since it doesn't happen in later layers, could it be a result of the z-home being too low?

I would be incline to agree assuming, that is, that your extruder is calibrated correctly.

Using ABSPrusa Mendel Zaphod with Pronterface and slic3r 1.3.0. Printing well with 3mm PLA and ABS through 2 x J Head Mk IV b and Wade Geared Exruders. Controlled using RAMPS1.4 board running Marlin_v1.1.9

That does indeed look like you have the first layer too low.
