Filament Not Melting

I am building a scratchbuilt printer using a RAMPS 1.4 board. My 12v hotend is not melting the filament, although it is heating up and Repetier says that it is reacing 130C. The thermistor is placed directly in the little hole on the heating block. I have a working fan and heatbead.

130°C is way to low for most filaments

PLA 180°C to 220°C
ABS 200°C to 250 °C

or are you trying something more exotic?

Got it. I'm using 1.75mm PLA. I though I remembered reading somewhere that 130 was the correct temperature, but I'm not sure how that happened.
