Why are my prints getting worse?

Why are my prints getting worse?

Well my first one in black came out ok but I'm running low on back filament so I switch to white and it starts turning to crap 2/3rds through. So I'm guessing its bad filament and try yellow which should be good filament and the print goes to crap. Both the white and the yellow are also 2mm short. Its a shared printer in our maker space and I'm thinking someone changed something in slic3r but I have no idea what.

What the hell is going on here?

What is the layer height set to? Those layers looks HUGE.
If you are sharing a Slic3r then it would be smart of you to keep your own config file when you go there. God knows what someone else buggered up.

I just left the layer height at 0.3mm, I thought it was calculated based on the nozzle which is 0.4mm.

I think the mess was caused by the computer freezing for a few moments in the middle of the print. I was going to try another computer today but one of the Z axis threaded rods is slipping out again. I may head over and try and fix it later tonight.

Its a prusa mendel kit that someone donated to our makerspace. The parts are of a very poor quality. I have my e3d bowden extruder on it at the moment trying to print a rostock. I think I have enough parts that are good enough to use on the rostock.

the material could be the issue. have you tried using the same material and comparing the quality?

I've switched to another computer and reconfigured the slicer settings. I've slowed down to 15mm/s to get better print quality. Cooling seems to be the biggest problem. I'm finding it hard to find a balance between enough cooling and keeping the bed hot enough for the parts to stick. I'm still getting strings even though I have the retract set to 4mm. I'm starting to wonder if the extruder temperature is off. I'm also having issues with parts warping.

FYI... NOT sure why anybody is still using Slic3R beyond v7.02b (v7.02b is a great simple and competent slicer).

I laugh when I see people trying to fix problems with this continual problematic slicer >Slic3R v7.02b.
I finally gave up after Slic3R v9.8; recouped my life, and no more wasted time and plastic, and moved forward away from Slic3R.
Every new Slic3R upgrade version has a new set of unresolved problems. I tried EVERY Slic3R version v7.02b - v9.8 extensively and utilized every smart so called fix for the problems... result garbage can full of melted plastic, hundred of frustrating hours endured/wasted, and saw my life passing me by. I'M DONE, DONE, DONE and DONE with Slic3R !!!

I used Skeinforge v41-v50 as my primary slicer for the last 2 years, but it has a memory limit which restricts you from printing more than simple trinkets and objects.

Over the last year, I print very complex and close tolerance engineering prototypes (0.1mm Layer Height @ +- 0.05mm tolerance) all day long everyday using KISSlicer, IMO it is the best slicer solution out there. NO more Slic3r wasting my time and memory limitations using Skeinforge, I have my life back now and time to do other things other than melt plastic in to useless shapes and fill the garbage can.

Note : KISSlicer is seemingly and sadly going defunct it appears, and is no longer maintained by it's creator/owner, but is still the best overall slicer ATM.
