Why do i have gaps in my prints?
May 23, 2014 06:31AM
Hi,
Im having issues where i have gaps in my prints, ive rechecked the esteps and ive tried different print settings but it doesnt seem to help, i was using a 0.35mm jhead but ive switched to a 0.4mm E3D, i wasnt having these issues before the change, its even worse if i do a large print that has a large flat, its almost as tho the filament is being laid to thinly.

Ive attached 2 pictures, the first one is the bottom layer of a wide print and the 2nd is of a treefrog. I even tried a fresh install of slic3r and repetier host

Both are printing using repetier host 95f and slic3r 1.1.2.
Print Settings
0.2mm layer height
40% infill
5 top and bottom layers
3 perimeters
30mm/s print speed
1.75mm ABS

Anyone have any ideas?

Have you recalibrated your E steps per mm since the change of hotend?

In Slic3r, under Print Settings>Advanced set Default extrusion width to the same size as your nozzle. There has always been something wrong with Slic3r's auto-calculated extrusion width for me, and manually setting the extrusion width to the same as the nozzle has been the only fix for this for my printer.

@ElectroWomble

E-steps would only change if he switched out the extruder stepper and gears, not the hot end itself.

Did your recalibrate your retraction length setting for your extruder? I would print a simple single wall box and watch and see if you have gaps when the printer gos to the next layer, if so then you need to decrease the retraction, if the retraction is set to low the opposite will happen and you will have plastic buldgeing out. Its listed in Printer settings tab.

Bad filament, moisture in filament
