Second layer messed up
April 07, 2015 03:58PM
Hi,

i have been messing around a bit trying to fix this.
Does someone know why my second layer looks like ....?
I have been playing a bit with the Z height.

Is there a way to calculate the correct Z height?
I have a nozzle of 0.35mm

Regards,
Bert

What are the first and second layer thicknesses? Does the hot-end temperature remain steady?

I think the basic rule of thumb is that your Z height should not be any bigger than 80% of your nozzle diameter. So maybe look at something like 0.25mm?

It doesn't look like your second layer is even touching the first layer though. You might try double checking the steps per mm on your Z-axis to ensure that it is not lifting more than your Z height each layer. For instance, with a 0.25mm layer height, the perhaps the nozzle is lifting 0.3mm, just enough to prevent good adhesion to the first layer.

Looking at the values, I think that this might be a good start.
The first layer is set to 0.35mm (nozzle size) this I believe should be around 0.28mm instead.
The other layers are 0.25mm
The nozzle temp is 195 at the first layer and drops to 190 on all the other layers.
Did have good results using this in the past
