Prusa i2 - Wades Extruder Jamming

Hi Guys,

Been building a prusa i2 for months now. Manage to calibrate x, y, z but im struggling with my extruder. My extruder keeps on jamming. It would run and start to melt the filament but after a few millimeters of filament, the motor and the hub bold with starts to chatter or jam.

Settings:
  • Wades Extruder
  • 0.5mm Nozzle
  • 3mm Filament
  • Temperature of Extruder 185deg

  • Ive tried adjusting the trimpots on the extruder stepper board
  • Ive changed the extruder temperature from 185 deg to 200 deg.

I'll take a breather, just frustated. Any guidance would be welcomed.

Are you using PLA or ABS?
Do you have a hotend fan mounted?
Did you calibrate steps per mm for the extruder yet? - if you stop the extrusion, relief the tension applied by the extruder (Pull up the filament a bit), can you then extrude more?

The key things I found when I switched to a (Chinese) E3D was a fan with a shroud around the heatsink, and minimal or no retraction.
