Limit model cooling fan air to only the model

Hi,

my machine only recently got good enough that I can concentrate on the finer issues. One thing that influences quality quite a bit is irregular layer stacking. I'm ignoring the influence of filament diameter inconsistencies here and only focus on how heat make some layers expand more or less. Im also ignoring the influence the heat bed has on that effect if its set to bang bang mode.

That leaves the hotend cooling fan. I recently added the torus shaped 360° fan funnel with a squirrel cage fan and that makes cooling much better, but still I have a temp difference of ca +- 1-2°C when the fan goes from 0 to 100% and there is no way in slicer to smooth out how the fan activates afaik.

So I wanted to open a discussion how this issue is handled by you.

Cheers

I have only a normal funnel with the tip extented with aluminium tape. Add a potentiometer to control your fan speed manually. Cura slicer has fan settings: Fan full at height etc.

You have a potentiometer on the model cooling fan?

No. I have only an on/off switch. I could put a potentiometer if I want to make a smooth start, but I don't have problems with my fan. It's not very powerfull. I switch it on usually after the raft layer if needed. [fearless-assassins.com]
