Float Glass vs Borosilicate Glass (Does it have any other name) Is there any REAL reason why borosilicate is preferred (talking with some local glass suppliers here in australia, they state that 3D guys always get just normal float glass 3-4mm for there beds...

I thought borosilicate glass was supposed to be less prone to breaking during rapid heat changes, but I haven't had any breakages with normal glass yet either. I have had a chunk pull out of the surface of the glass, but I heard that can happen to borosilicate too, so on that count cheap glass may be a better bet, and treat it as a consumable.

Borosilicate glass is less susceptible to breaking when exposed to temperature gradients. Since it was easier for me to source borosilicate from china then getting float glas locally i use borosilicate.
In general i prefer PEI printplates or just plain aluminum with adhesive spray.

I bought borosilicate glass for my 1st printer and bought a cheap picture frame from Walmart and cut the glass down to size for my second printer. They both work the same.the picture frame glass is wafer thin but I've been using it for almost 2 years without managing to break it. My $30 piece of borosilicate has had a few chunks pulled out due to print cooling. Save some money and use the cheap stuff.
