Z axis layer problem

I'm new on 3d printing just set up. X and Y axis went smoothly with accurate reading but my Z axis print more layers the usual size. Eg. Printing a 40mm cube for calibration, X and Z axis print correctly but the Z axis went higher than 40mm went up to 400 layers. My setting are first layer 0.1mm by 0.1mm following layers.

Sorry but I can't follow you here.
Do you mean the slicer produced too many layers or that the printer is printing too high?
Check the steps for the z-axis would be my first guess.

You said it was 40mm high and you were using 0.1 mm layers- that takes 400 layers.

If the part is taller than expected, you need to adjust the Z axis steps/mm. Here's the formula:
New steps/mm = target size / printed size * old steps/mm

In case your algebra is a little weak, do the division first, then the multiplication.

P.E.M.D.A.S, right?
Except in the UK they have B.I.M.D.A.S, but same thing.

Parenthesis / brackets
Exponents / indices
Multiplication
Division
Addition
Subtraction

Also, 0.1mm layers are a bit slow- for a 0.4mm nozzle I use 0.2 microns- 200 layers for the cube, so 2x faster.

With multiplication and division, expressions are evaluated from left to right.
