Cleaning after printing?

Cleaning after printing?
August 15, 2016 12:51PM
I have a home assembled Prusa Mendel i2.

After printing, is it okay to just shut everything down or should I remove the filament and clean the head in any way?

Thanks.

James.

You don't need to. If you have a fan cooling the hotend, wait for it to get to about 45C before turning off. That's to keep the filament from getting jammed in the cold section.

I will recommend you to clean the nozzle and retract the filament unless you plan to print with same material.

I have never done anything unless I am switching filament.

I just wait till the hot end cools down a bit then power straight down. I dont remove the filament unless im changing the color and then I purge and all before I even start printing.

Thanks for the replies - I have experienced loads of jamming issues and have just completely replaced my extruder in the hope of addressing. The new extruder is fan cooled. Thanks for sharing the best practice.
