Dual extruder - one filament

Hi all,
have question about dual extruder.
I have Cyclops type of extruder.
I have two ways in and one nozzle. There are two ways in heating block, one from
left side and second from right side. If I print two colors I understand
that color changing is through purge block but what happen when
I want to print only one color ? For example I am going to print with ABS 8 hours,
what will happen with opposite chamber on right side which is also heated and there is also some
rest of filament heating up ? Will it clogg through the time when its heated and not used ?

I still use V6 but want to switch to Cyclops, so that is why I ask.

Why not just do a cold pull to get the filament out of the side you won't be using?
