single layer shift of about 20 mm

single layer shift of about 20 mm

I'm printing a base for a model of a windturbine and I'm challenging with a peculiar layer shift.

It's a shift of about 20 mm and occurs only once. After the shift the printing is normal again.

My guess is that it has nothing to do with temperature, because the layer shifting should remain.

My second guess is that is also nothing mechanical, because of the same reason.

So it must be a slicing error. ??

Is this a correct deduction??

Thx martin

unlikely to be a slicing error

Also any good slicer should be able to show you each layer in a preview.

you can also upload you gcode to places like [gcode.ws] (online gcode viewer) and take a look

Some things to check:
- motor current too low or too high
- intermittent break in the cable
- nozzle catching extruded plastic raising up
- something catching in the carriage
- stepstick overheating
- sudden drop in supply voltage
- max. Velocity, acceleration and/or jerk setting too high
- check what firmware version is used and see if there are known issues

Looks like a temp problem, something getting too hot, but it seemed to recover quickly and not repeat.

That also looks like what happens if you are tethered and the laptop went to sleep (or the usb glitched).

Try printing from a sd card if possible.

Any update Martin ?
Its nice to know when people fix things and can share the solution and the cause.
Incidently, I do agree it may be a software issue. I base this on the fact that the shift is not the same on the left and right of the image. That means the distance traveled is changing. But its not random.
So i would disagree that its only doing it once. It does the left once but repeatedly on the right.
Doesn't look like there is anything in the model to cause a slicing change.
Maybe some sort of interference or interupt.
