How do compile slic3r myself?

Im trying to build for 64bit linux. i've compiled things from source many times over the years but the perl/cpan this is new to me.
Whats the procedure to build from git master? should this be done as root or normal user?

Should you have problems with the perl Build.PL, which often happens on some Ubuntu systems with broken CPAN setups, try the following:

curl -L ht*tp://cpanmin.us | perl - --sudo .

Oh, stupid forum formatting. Remove the * inside "http".
