Huge file - how to tell if Slic3r crashed or still working?
April 09, 2017 03:47PM
Hi all

I have a 90mb STL slicing right now. It has been since yesterday, nearly 24 hours ago. It's 117cm tall, with 1mm layer heights, 15% infill, seam position aligned, following quality (slower slicing_ settings:

Extra perimeters: YES
Avoid crossing perimeters: NO
Detect Thin walls: YES
Detect bridging perimeters: YES

PC is Windows 7, Core i5-2600K, 8GB Ram. It is running at 2.5GB used, climbing extremely slowly, 25% CPU fairly constantly.

The slicing process is up to 'Generating support material' which is towards the end, but has been there all of today...

So, is there any way to tell if it has crashed, or should I leave overnight?
Cheers
Alex

I've read, the Prusa version of slic3r requires much less memory and is able to slice faster with multicore CPUs.

If you have a spare PC, install and slice it there to see the difference. Or bite the bullet and cancel the current slice. Installing the new version is a piece of cake. The software recognized the current settings.

I use Slic3r 1.30 beta and it is much faster and stable. Prusa is based on 1.30 beta
