With multiple extruders x and y can have an offset, but no Z offset as far as I can see.

I doubt you would want that. It would mean that one nozzle would be higher then another and the head would need to move down, which could result in the lower nozzle hitting the print. IMO any z-offset should be take care of in the printer (as in, there shouldn't be any)

Banjer, you are correct if you assume a standard format printer, but not in the case where non standard
formats are employed.

john, what would that non standard format printer look like? how would different Z offsets avoid collisions in that case?

only thing i can think of is something that could switch hot ends.so you would only have 1 in at a time. i suppose you could also have your hot ends rotate some how.

spot on dissidence,
Its a robot arm with (at the moment 2 heads), still being built, but if its a problem I can write a parser for the
gcode to solve my problem, but any format mentioned by dissidence would need it.

ok now your peaking my curiosity, i would very much like to see your build once it is done.

thought if it has to go to a home position to change heads that seems a little time consuming to me.

John, I hope you'll understand that such a feature would address a very limited range of uses so it's unlikely that it will be implemented in Slic3r.

Moreover I think that the Z offset option shouldn't be at all in Slic3r as it's an ugly compensation for bad endstop position. If you have such a complex hardware I think Z compensation should be handled in firmware.

... hmmm ... could be as simple as adding a value for every Z-move, that depends on the selected extruder and is 0 if not set or containing the measured offset of the selected extruder in steps ...

No problem, I shall solve it another way, but looking ahead to machines that have multiple abilities,
cutting, placement, etc, some form of TLO will be needed.

Hi Sound,

Moreover I think that the Z offset option shouldn't be at all in Slic3r as it's an ugly compensation for bad endstop position.

I understand where you are coming from but I use the Z offset to adjust the difference in Z height between my hot end at 185c, when printing PLA, and when it is at 230c for printing ABS.

I used to have both sets of figures in Marlin with the unused ones commented out but it was be such a pain to have to keep adjusting and reloading firmware every time I wanted to change my filament type.

Now I setup my Z distance in firmware with PLA temperatures. In Slic3r I setup PLA profiles with 0 Z offset and my ABS profiles at 0.1 Z offset. Because of this feature I don't have to reload my firemware every time I switch between PLA and ABS. Please do not remove it altogether. Call it sometihing different, move it somewhere else but please, please don't get rid of it.

Many Thanks
