Can not get a good slice

Can not get a good slice
June 20, 2013 07:29PM
I have tried everything I can think of, but just can not get anything of these Mendel90 parts to slice properly.
They have holes in them. I downloaded netfabb and applied repairs, but even the repaired files wont slice.

Please see pics for details.

There is the occasional file that wont slice properly, but for the most part, everything else slices ok.

I need some help on this, cuz I'm completely lost with getting these sliced.

thanks

Can you post the STL files for us to look at?

The STL files are fine!

What slicer are you using?
What layer height are you slicing at?

Oh geez, sorry...

I'm using the newest slicer 09.10b
Running it with Repetier host.

I've tried slicing it with 0.2, 0.25, 0.3 and 0.4mm heights
with both automatic extrusion widths and manual widths...

Right in slicer, its telling me there are holes in the objects?
(there errors are listed in the pics)
Could this be a slicer issue?
I'll try the older version...

Thanks!

K, I Sliced the wades block with the older ver 0.9.9.
It still told me there was a hole in it, but it looks like it sliced properly...
Code seems OK, I'm going to try a print...

Hello,
Anyone have this problem with Slicer that I am having. I load an STL into Repetier and the detail on this STL looks great. Then I go to slice it
and a lot of important details disappear, and it even adds a step or ridge on a smooth surface. It also addes some strange piping on some of the surfaces.
I first thought that it might be my video card, but it printed just like it looked in Slicer.
Anyone have any clue as to what this can be?
Thanks
John

UPDATE:

When I slice with slic3r through Repetier host, I get the errors (holes in the model)
but if I load up slic3r by itself and slice, the object slices fine?!

The problem I'm having with that, is I need to scale up the object about 0.01% but I can not add the decimal place in the slic3r scaling...
Is there a way to get around this?

thanks!

What? Even printing the full width of the bed i.e. a 200mm wide object,a scale of .01% is only 20 microns?

LOL as trivial as it seems, yea!!
I'm printing a Mendel90, and need to oversize it a little...

So is there a way to get a decimal place in there somehow when scaling?
or is it only full percentage points?

If you need to slice it larger like that to make things fit, it's because something else is misconfigured somewhere. You can open the STL in anything and re-size it if you really want to go that route.... ReplicatorG, Repetier Host, Pleasant3D, etc.

20 microns is barely 1.5 microsteps over the entire length of your bed, quatization alone guarantees that you will see absolutely no difference at that scaling level from not scaling it at all.

From Nophead himself, he oversize his prints due to shrinkage of the plastic...
He over-sizes the STLs by 1.0057. That's why I would like to re-size things...

I tried to resize the STL myself(ViaCAD) but when I try to re-slice the file, I get holes in it...
I throw it through netfabb, but it does not fix the holes. So I'm left with the original question.

Is there a way to re-size a file through slicer with a decimal place?

Thanks....

I don't oversize the STL. I just set the XY scale factor in Skeinforge. I also set the perimeter flowrate according to this maths: [hydraraptor.blogspot.co.uk] otherwise it is too big because skeinforge assumes all paths have rectangular cross section, but outlines don't.

I have never got things the right size in other slicers so I stick with SF until they fix all their bugs which with slic3r is probably after my lifetime the way it seems to be going.

Hi Hophead, could you post your SF settings?

I guess I really need to break down and start using it...

Thanks.
