.5mm tip with a .5 Layer Height

Has anyone tried to slice an object with the following settings:

; generated by Slic3r 0.9.10b on 2013-10-01 at 07:24:13

; layer_height = 0.5
; perimeters = 3
; top_solid_layers = 3
; bottom_solid_layers = 3
; fill_density = .4
; perimeter_speed = 30
; infill_speed = 60
; travel_speed = 60
; nozzle_diameter = 0.5
; filament_diameter = 1.75
; extrusion_multiplier = .80
; perimeters extrusion width = 0.53mm
; infill extrusion width = 0.53mm
; solid infill extrusion width = 0.53mm
; top infill extrusion width = 0.53mm
; first layer extrusion width = 1.00mm

What I am getting when I look at the generated gcode is a missing layer. It is leaving a gap between each layer.

This is everything from .5 to .95

Same problem with .5mm tip with a .4 Layer Height

; generated by Slic3r 0.9.10b on 2013-10-01 at 09:35:47

; layer_height = 0.4
; perimeters = 3
; top_solid_layers = 3
; bottom_solid_layers = 3
; fill_density = .4
; perimeter_speed = 30
; infill_speed = 60
; travel_speed = 60
; nozzle_diameter = 0.5
; filament_diameter = 1.75
; extrusion_multiplier = .80
; perimeters extrusion width = 0.53mm
; infill extrusion width = 0.53mm
; solid infill extrusion width = 0.53mm
; top infill extrusion width = 0.53mm
; first layer extrusion width = 0.80mm

Thanks

You can't print a layer the same height as your nozzle diameter, it just won't come out right. Try .4mm height, I think that's as far as I would go with a .5mm nozzle

Agreed, 0.5mm layer height is too much for that nozzle. Jeff, have you calibrated your extruder and axes? I see a lot of values in both of those configs that are suspect.

For instance, I'd set extrusion_multiplier to 1.0 (or very close, depending on calibration process), and then set every other extrusion width to 0.50mm.
For extrusion height, I'd start at 0.4 or 0.333 (0.333 since I like integral layers/mm) and go from there.

Overriding Slic3r's calculated values with hard, known, and reasonable values makes it easier to calibrate/monitor.
