Support for tall thin object

Hello,

In my attempt to print a 200 mm aerofoil on end (tall thin print), it has become clear that supports are needed. An example of the kind of support I would like to use is attached except that my object is an aerofoil rather than a stylus as in the picture. Some have suggested laying the aerofoil down flat or putting a long narrow edge down on the print bed but those options also have drawbacks.

Can adding the cylindrical supports be done in Slic3r? If not, can you suggest software to manipulate an .STL file to add supports before slicing?

Kindly,

Michael

Why don't you put the supports into the CAD file before you export the stl file for printing?

You could use Meshmixer. Video: [www.youtube.com]

This airfoil is 260mm high and it prints reliable without support.
I simply used a wide brim on LokBuild print surface and made sure the nozzle didn't scratch on the latest layer. ( minimal underextrusion of 95% )
