Repetier host unexpected exit during print
June 15, 2012 03:31AM
Hi Repetier,
i have an annoying proble with your fantastic software and firmware.
I use a ramps 1.4
I have the last version of repetier host on a old win xp laptop. It works great, but with no reason, at some point of print the software shut down (don't crash, simple exit from host). There isn't any type of error message, the software exit and the printer stops in the actual position.
When i restart the host i haven't problem to connect to the printer, and in my thest i never have a second shut down of the host.
When the host is shut down the fan and the extruder resistance working.
Can you help me to resolve this little but annoying problem?
Do you think that use the linux version i can resolve the problem?

Thanks for all
Francesco

Hi fralab!
Have also searched your windows event log for errors?!
I had an issue with my graphics driver ...(see [forums.reprap.org]) but that was reported in the Repetier Host Logs and didn't lead to a complete shutdown of the host.
Don't forget to take a look into your taskmanager to see if it's just an issue of too weak hardware.

I don't think the linux version will help. It was developed on a windows machine and windows is the best os for it.

Old XP laptop could be the reason. The host can need quite some resources caused by the graphic preview. If your hardware is too weak, this could be the problem. To verify this go to 3d settings and enable "Disable filament visualization". This reduces usage off graphic memory to a minimum. If you then get no crashes, you know it's the graphic memory which is too small for your objects. You can then try using line visualization instead of the nice 3d filament which reduces the data.

Hi Repetir,
you're right, with the line visualization i've made 10h print without shutdown.
Very thanks.
Another question: when a full support for a 2nd extruder?
Bye

Good to hear.

The host can send code for x extruder. The problem is the complete tool chain. Except for support with other material (Slic3r) there are no slicer for multiple toolheads. Also new data formats are needed to enter the right color etc. so I think it will take a time until it becomes as easy as printing with a single head. I hope to have a double extruder by the end of the year so I can start developing for this combination. It is always difficult to develop if you can't test yourself how it works.

Francesco, what is your hardware setup (CPU and graphic card)?
