Repetier host is not responding
August 01, 2013 12:18AM
I changed my printbed settings and instead of putting a 0, I just erased the number. Repetier immediately shut down and gave me "Repetier host has stopped working". When I try to restart it I get the same eror. Trying to diagnose I found that it shows to be incompatable. It looks like it is in XP mode now and I am running windows 8.Any thoughts? Thanks

Ok, I could find out how you managed that. If you make that change and click directly on ok you prevent the type check and can introduce the error causing the crash. Your main problem is, that the illegal value is now stored in registry and crashes the host on start.

Solution:
press Win+R and start regedit
Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\repetier\printer\
You will see all values for that printer on the right one.
Change the defaultHeatedBedTemp to 0 - from your description this is the value you changed.

Now the host should start again. Next update will prevent that error and set temp to 0 on error.

Well, I went into settings and it was set to 95. changed to 0 and it still won't run. Any other Ideas?

When I right click repetier host and go to compatability trouble shooter, it shows window XP. I am running windows 8. I always load windows 7-8 from solidoodle's website. Could this be an issue?

I would uninstall Repetier-Host, clean the registries using e.g. CCleaner and install Repetier-Host again.
Re: Repetier host is not responding

Well you have to find the key where you made the change.

If you want to start with a clean install remove the
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\repetier

subtree and contents. This is the only section used by the host. A reinstall is not necessary. Removing the tree forces the host to recreate the tree with defaults.

If you are using a customized version the path differs and you should use the installer, because the customized presets are inside the installer.

Okay, thanks. In the past I supported Windows-Applications and I learnt, that regedit is only appropriate for advanced users. Therefore my suggestion to reinstall Repetier-Host.

The problem is that uninstall does not delete registry. A fact I should perhaps change, so that reinstalling really works for all users. I will see if I can ask if the user wants this in my installer.

How do I go about uninstalling HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\repetier ? I don't see where I can get to that file under the uninstall a program section.
Re: Repetier host is not responding

It is not a file, it is a data-tree in the registry. Press
WIN+R and enter regedit. That program is the registry editor and shows it like a file system. There you can save/rename/change/delete data. But make sure you only play with that tree and not any other one. You never know what you damage in windows if you do.

A workaround is to export "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Repetier" on your PC into a file and to upload this file.
This way the user would be able to douple-click this file and install the key again.

What exactly did you erase?

....

Obviously you did not erase the "Default Heated Bed Temperature", it was set to 95!

Yeah, I thought that too, but it was literally milliseconds after I hit the backspace key that I got the windows error box and it shut down.

So when just the main folder is highlighted and not open I cannot delete. If I highlight the sub folders I can delete those individually. Do I just go through and delete all of the folder under it individually? I cannot take a screen shot, but here is what I see. I assume I will right click and delete the folders in blue and only in blue. Also will I need to reload repetier at this point or will it regenerate correctly on its own?
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
AppEvents

Control Panel

NO! do not delete the blue folders!

I could check your Registry-Key if you like.

Just run regedit. Goto HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Repetier
Click in Menu > File > Export to a file e.g. Repetier.reg

and upload Repetier.reg to the reprap forum.

... in regedit you should goto HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Repetier

- select the Repetier folder (click it)
- goto to Menu > File > Export "Repetier.reg" (approx. 6.5 KB )

Use Attach a file > Choose File > Repetier.reg

and click Attach

to upload to reprap forum.

... I was searching for a value like this:

"defaultHeatedBedTemp"=""

But I didn't find any. Maybe Repetier can find the wrong value in your Repetier.reg.

I'll come back tomorrow.

Good night!

WOOOOOHOOOOOOOO. I found the Registry that had the missing value. It works now. Thank all of you for all of your help! It would be great for others to see that an uninstall and reinstall could reset all defaults though.

Which Registry-Value did you change?

I've found these blank entries:

"slic3rPrint"=""
"slic3rPrinter"=""
"slic3rFilament1"=""
"slic3rFilament2"=""
"slic3rFilament3"=""
"skeinforgeProfile"=""

"slic3rConfigDir"=""
"slic3rExecutable"=""

It was print bed default temp. I apparently looked in a different directory than before. I know that might not technically be possible, but I found one that was blank, changed it to 95 degrease and repetier loaded first try.

It is possible! and here is the explanation:

You've installed Repetier-Host Solidoodle V0.85b, this version has another Registry-Key:

"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RepetierSolidoodle"

Conclusion:
The Computer is merciless, the human MUST be accurate.

"Repetier host is not responding" should be "Repetier-Host Solidoodle V0.85b is not responding"

Yes, custom host versions are advised to use their own registry tree to not get into conflicts with the official host version.
