Stuck at Splash Screen
December 24, 2013 09:19AM
Sorry if this has been asked before; Search didn't turn up anything similar.

Running Windows 7 (32-bit) and loaded Repetier-Host 0.95C on a Dell Latitude d620. .Net4 is installed, and the video card is OpenGL 1.4 compliant. Repetier-Host hangs at Splash Screen; after 5 minutes or so Windows tells me the program has stopped working and will be closed. No other error message or explanation (thanks Microsoft!). I realize that there are a plethora of software issues that could be causing this, but some guidance on what to check would be greatly appreciated. Just received my Robo3D printer, and I'm stuck half-way thru the "Getting Started" procedures. Thanks!

My favourite reason would be the OpenGL driver. 1.4 is a very old type. You need 1.5 to be able to work fast in 3d, but older version worked normally - only slower. 0.95 uses a new OpenTK library, which might have to do something with your problem. Could you try 0.90 for comparison, which uses the older OpenTK version and no antialiasing. If a mode is not supported, it should fallback to the best version possible. Might be that there something goes wrong. Also 5 minutes is very long. When I had OpenGL problems it always crashed immediately.

You could also check the windows logs for a reason. Perhaps there are some more informations available.

I am having the same problem that you were having. I have a Dell inspiron 1525 running windows 7, 32 bit.

Did you ever resolve your problem?

Actually, I installed Repertier on an even older desktop unit and installed fine. I'd advise trying a Selective Startup ( [windows.microsoft.com] ) to see if you can isolate what is causing the conflict.

I have exactly the same problem on my HP laptop. v0.90 works but 0.95D hangs with the splash screen obscuring an error message that suggests that something has gone wrong and the application will be closed. I have to use task manager to end the task to get out of it. The laptop has an intel chipset graphics card with all the latest drivers available. I am running 32bit Windows 7 with all the latest updates.

I don't see how changing the startup of the laptop will help. What is likely to be stopping Repetier starting up? I have nothing but basic network and video drivers running anyway. Anything less and the machine won't run.

Any help would be appreciated.

Mark

The message could help. Please disable the splash screen to see it. In your programm folder of Repetier-Host in the data subdirectory is a file custom.ini. There search
; How long to show the splash screen, 0 = off
splashscreenDelay=5

and set delay to 0. Then you should be able to see the message, which hopefully gives an indication of the problem.

The message just says that the program has stopped working and will be closed. There is no indication of why I am afraid.

I've got the same problem. 0.95C worked fine, after updating to 0.85D it crashes every time I start. Several reinstalls and registry cleaning.

The Problem report (klick on "more information" in the crash dialog box) says:

I think it is a problem with antialiasing. Please try this version:

[dl.dropboxusercontent.com]

It has anti-aliasing disabled by default (don't switch it on in your case).

Please report if it works, then I make it a final version 95E

Is that for the version I just uploaded 1 minute ago or the rest off the first test you posted? Because that is exactly the problem the new OpenTK version should solve i just uploaded.

I get the error with the website version and the version posted in Dropbox.

Also, I should add part of the error is "The requested GraphicsMode is not supported."

Ok, here we go again:
[dl.dropboxusercontent.com]

This time I used the same default mode as in OpenTK 1.0 which seemed to work.

Is there anyone having this problem who has not an Intel graphic card?

I tried all the 0.95D versions and they don't work, switched back to 0.90C and that works.

New iteration.

Together with the OpenTK developer we analyzed the problem and and found some things that could cause all these problems. The good news is that my laptop which was not working with the latest version now works well again. So I hope anyone with this problem can now use this version as well:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/74036902/setupRepetierHost_0_95.exe

Please report back if it works and if not, what the error message is and which graphic card/driver/os you are using.

Tried this iteration of 0.95E and still have the same problem. Splash screen starts, main program window opens behind splash screen but without any content - just a empty window. Then it hangs with the cursor spinning and Windows pops up an error saying that "Repetier-host has stopped working".

0.90C works fine.

Ok, just uploaded version 0.95F which now uses again OpenTK 1.0 and not the newer 1.1 version which caused all this graphic problems. I guess it should now work for all who could run 0.90.

So sorry to say this, but 0.95F has exactly the same problems for me. Splash screen starts, main program window opens behind splash screen but without any content - just a empty window. Then it hangs with the cursor spinning. Eventually Windows pops up an error saying that "Repetier-host has stopped working".

If there's any specific debugging I can do for you, I'd be happy to. Please let me know. Until then I'll stick with 0.90C on this particular machine.

Repetier is a GREAT program. Thanks for making it available.

Strange. 0.95F uses the same 3d library as 0.90c and I already got reports it is working with intel graphic cards again.

If the error message has no details button you might have a look into the windows events and see if there is a more useful message.
