Repetier configuration

Hi there. I'm new to 3d printing and I'm trying to build my own printer. Got to the point where I have the structure and the components but I'm having problems with the firmware. I'm trying to use the Repetier firmware. I dont have a predefined board, just the arduino mega 2560. Is there a way to find out what the pins from userpins.h need to do? Or how they must be connected? And how can i disable features, just bypass everything. I just need to get it moving.

Are you planning to breadboard the stepper motor drivers and other stuff? Personally, I'd just buy a RAMPS 1.4 board and plug it on top of your Mega 2560 before trying to replicate it from scratch.....

Yes, you could say that i'm doing that. On the Ramps part, I did try uploading the predifined sketch for that board and I still got undefined pins. So I dont know if there will be mutch of a difference betwen that bord or one build by me. The thing is that i dont need to use everything that it offers. Even the temperature is controlled by a separate microcontroler for me, with thermocouples. I just need to see that it does some steps on any of the pins. I can go from there.

Another question would be: Are there some pins on the arduino that I need to pull up, or down in order to do some sort of enable? somehow to make the arduino acknowledge that he is connected to the 3d printer? In the software from SeeMeCNC he is saying that it's printing but it does not move from 100%. So there might be some verification procedure(feedback) from the arduino to ensure that the structure moved.
