Shorter hobbed bolt

Shorter hobbed bolt

On my first attempt to print the extruder the printer ran out of filament at about 95% through. I obviously need to print a new one, but I was wondering if I could use a shorter hobbed bolt. I have the equipment to make the bolt.

Is there a design reason for such a long bolt, or would a shorter one work with a modified extruder body?

The point was to get the motor and gear assembly down below the bed as it is too wide to fit beside the bed while keeping the exit hole for the filament up as high as I could to keep the bowden tube as short as possible and keep it a smooth curve form the exit all the way to the hotend.

Thanks for the insight. I had a suspicion that there was a reason for the long bolt.
