Hotend Resistor

So I burnt out my hotend resistor the other day, and I can't find a replacement for it. Lee's and Main both hae 5.6 Ohm, 2 W resistors, but they are the wrong physical shape. Brad, I'm wondering where you got the resistors for the kits?

My j-head from hotends.com came with this resistor.

Digikey part# 696-1087-ND, manufacturer part# UB5C-5R6F1. This resistor is 5.6 ohm 5 watt.

As I'm unable to purchase things online, does anyone in the Vancouver area have a spare resistor I can buy/trade?

I got them with the hotends from hotends.com . You could try RPelectronics.

You could also change to a heater cartridge if they are easier to find.

I have about a dozen spares. If you can't find any, PM me, I can stick one in an envelope and snail mail it to you.

What is the proper/ideal spec for the resistor? I need to order a new one as well. I can't see it in the BOM anywhere.

Tantillus uses a standard J-Head, which according to the wiki uses a 5.6 or 6.8 ohm, 5W, 1% axial resistor. They use a size C drill bit to bore the heater mount hole which is .242" or 6.15mm, and from the DigiKey link above, the specific resistor supplied with at least some J-Head hotends is :
Size / Dimension 0.217" Dia x 0.500" L (5.50mm x 12.70mm)

HTH!
