I'm missing a step somewhere. The two non drive rods are captured by the corner pieces. What keeps the x & y gear driven 5/16" rods from walking out of their bearings?

The gears.

Also the fact that the rods have no reason to move they do not tend to move. On the printed machine the other two rods are not actually captured at all. One more thing is once the cables are installed the force they apply on the rods pulls them towards the center which results in friction between the rods and the bearings.
