Issues with wiring
February 23, 2014 11:40PM
Finished building the Mendel90.
What works:
  • Extruder and bed heating
  • Thermistors
  • x axis movement
  • x axis homing
What doesn't work:
  1. Only one motor on the z axis moves, the other one is unpowered. I can move it manually without resistance
  2. z axis and y axis are swapped. Moving the printer up and down moves it back and forward
  3. y axis alignment doesn't work, the switch gets pressed but it doesnt stop. Probably related to the swapped axis.

Using windows8 and the default settings from the reprap firmware (baud @ 250000)

Since the Z motors are in series, it is impossible to have one powered and one not. I think you must have mixed up the Z and Y motor wires some how.

In fact the picture shows you have connected the left Z motor to the Y terminals on the Melzi.
