M10 threaded rod not possible
November 15, 2012 07:55AM
Hi,

I tried to generate x-ends for 12mm smooths rod and 10mm threaded rod. However, x-ends do not scale this way, so there is no place to put walls around M10 nut holder in x-ends. Also, it goes out too much and influences LM12UU holders.

Nophead, any plans to update the scripts to make it possible ?

You absolutely don't want to use threaded rod that thick - you get reduced steps/mm (probably not a problem though) but also you'll get lots of fighting since the threaded rod is so strong. Go for m8, or even m5.

I have M8 already, but I'd like to switch to trapezoidal one - 10x2 as 8mm trapezoidal spindles are very hard to get...

Sorry I don't have time to do custom design work for people.

The reason it doesn't work is because the Z rods stand 50% on the edge of the motors. That isn't possible if you have massive Z bars and lead screws but not correspondingly bigger motors. The Z motor bracket design would need to change.
