weak bearing holder on x-carriage

Hi,

the side near the gantry, with one bearing looks like this, when generated for 12mm ball bearings:

A while ago I pushed my extruder "a bit" smiling smiley to clean it, and... the connection broke:

Is there any reason to have a gap there? Why not to fill it, the same way it is one the other side with 2 bearing holders? It will be much stronger.

It allows the bearing to float horizontally but not vertically so that it is not over constrained. I.e. the connection is thin in one direction and thick in the other.

Perhaps the depth of the carriage should increase when using larger bearings. Why are you using 12mm bearings?

I have 12mm rods everywhere on XYZ (450mm, next printer 500mm); I found 8mm too weak in my first Prusa printer...
