Not scientific, but compare a typical print (black) from my mendelmax 1.5 build to the just built Mendel90 (green).

I am amazed at the quality out of the box with the Mendel90. Note that the Mendel90 has not been fully calibrated either.

I too have found that my prints look great even without calibrating!

I'm very impressed.
